It measures 383 x 486 mm (approximately 15 x 19-1/8 inches).
This is Henricus Hondius' derivative of John Smith's highly important map of Virginia, 1612. It is the only Smith derivative to bear an Indian facing the Chesapeake Bay.
It is in excellent condition and apparently
a very early strike with clean, crisp lines from the new plate of 1633.
Full margins with clean, unchipped edges. Bright colour completes
the overall superb condition of this important map.
This map will be offered for the first
time at the Literacy League's 3rd Annual Antiques Show & Sale at Governors
Hall, Sailwinds Park, Cambridge, MD, April 18, 19, and 20, 2008, by Howard I. Price II Fine Arts, Lake Worth, FL.
